Tutorial - Autumn Triangles Quilt Kit from Sit n' Sew Fabrics
This time of year, everyone's focus is on the gorgeous fall colors. The leaves don't last long, though, so this quilt is designed to help you bring the harvest hues inside: introducing the Autumn Triangles quilt kit.
The quilt uses two different background fabrics and 10 FQs for a wonderfully scrappy look. I had so much fun picking out the gold, orange, red and brown prints. For the block backgrounds, we chose two QT Shades solids - Sand and Natural - to create a subtle secondary design that allows the fall prints to pop. And the blocks are simple to put together - keep reading.

Here's what the quilt looks like - 15 each Sand and Neutral blocks for a total of 30 blocks. The 60" x 72" size makes a great lap quilt, perfect for fall couch time.
The quilt kit includes the printed pattern, but let's take a look here at how the blocks go together.
Make HSTs.
Create 2-at-a-time HSTs using (1) background and (1) print square. Draw a line on the wrong side of the background square. Pair the squares right sides together and sew 1/4" on both sides of the line. Cut on the line, press units open, and square up to measure 3-1/2".
You'll use (1) in this block; set the second HST units aside for a later block.
Lay out (1) HST and (2) matching print HSTs. Note that the triangles are slightly larger - this creates the seam allowance for the next step. As you join each triangle, make sure the short edge of the triangle aligns with the HST - let the triangle points extend past the HST.
Remember those oversized triangles? They create the print overlap below the HST unit. This will be the seam allowance for joining the pieced triangle to the background triangle, allowing your block to have perfect points.
Make the Quarter Block Unit.
Layer the pieced triangle unit right sides together on the background triangle, aligning the long raw edges. These long edges are cut on the bias, so they're stretchy! Pin the long edges together - especially at the ends, where it's hard to hold the pieces together as you stitch.
Stitch along the long edge with a 1/4" seam allowance, making sure the stitching line runs adjacent to the HST seams - this will create the point.

Open the unit and press toward the background triangle. Trim off dog ears.
Make (2) different quarter block units to be used in (1) block.
Assemble the Block.
Lay out (2) quarter block units and (2) 6-1/2" background squares as shown. Sew the units and squares into rows, pressing seams toward the squares. Join the rows to complete the 12-1/2" square block.
That's it!
Make (15) using Sand background and (15) using Natural background. Vary the print pairings for a nice scrappy look.
