Cut-Away Embroidery Backing

Cut-away embroidery backing is a permanent stabilizer designed to remain behind the stitches after embroidery is complete. Its stretch-resistant support makes it a common choice for garments and fabrics that need continued stability through wear, movement, and repeated washing.

Cut-away stabilizer is often used for sweatshirts, polo and golf shirts, children’s clothing, knits, and other stretchy or unstable fabrics. It is placed behind the fabric during embroidery to help reduce shifting, puckering, and distortion while the design is being stitched.

After stitching is finished, the excess backing is trimmed away around the outside of the design, while the stabilizer directly behind the embroidery remains in place to provide ongoing support.
