Sew Along - Fabric Storage "Boxes"
It's January - everyone's favorite organizing season as the new year begins.
One common theme for organizing is storage, and today we're here to offer a solution. Choose your favorite fat quarters to stitch adorable fabric boxes - perfect for holding scraps, thread, binding clips, and even snacks.
You'll Need:
Small Bin
- (2) 9" squares fabric
- (2) 2-1/4" x 18" strips for binding
- (1) 9" square fusible fleece
Medium Bin
- (2) 12" squares fabric
- (2) 2-1/4" x 18" strips for binding
- (1) 12" square fusible fleece
Large Bin
- (2) 16" squares fabric
- (2) 2-1/4" x 18" strips for binding
- (1) 16" square fusible fleece
1. Fuse the fusible fleece square to the wrong side of the outer fabric square.
2. Fold the square in half, fleece side out. Cut 3" squares out of each folded corner.
4. Match the seam on one side with the folded bottom edge to create a boxed corner. Pin the raw edges to secure, and then stitch across using a 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat on the opposite corner.
9. Press the binding up and then over the top edge of the bin. Pin the folded edge in place. Machine stitch in place to secure the binding. Tip: Choose a thread color that blends with the binding and/or box lining so it doesn't show when you topstitch the binding.
Make the large bin in the same manner, using 16" squares and cutting 4" squares from the corners.
Make the Small Bin
Make the small bin in the same manner, using 9" squares and cutting 2-1/4" squares from the corners.
