Diamonds Galore!
Why This Quilt Kit Is So Fun to Sew
The Diamonds in the Sky quilt kit comes with all the pieces precut — the diamonds, borders, and binding — so you can move straight into sewing. Half the prep work is already done for you, which means more time enjoying the fun part.
Once your diamonds are positioned correctly, the process becomes much more manageable. The main thing is understanding how the overlap works so your points and rows line up neatly.
How to Sew a Diamond Quilt
These four basic steps will help you piece your diamond rows neatly and keep your layout on track.
Double Check the Layout
Position is key. In this quilt, the diamonds are joined in diagonal rows. Before you start sewing, make sure the diamond rows are all positioned in the same direction.

Create 1/4" of Overlap Between Diamonds
Lay the red diamond on top of the blue diamond after double checking the position. Then slide the top diamond so 1/4" of the blue diamond shows at the top. This overlap is the key to getting the stitched diamonds to align.

Stitch From Overlap to Overlap
With your diamonds overlapped correctly, you’re ready to sew with a 1/4" seam allowance. The stitched line should run from where the fabrics overlap at the top all the way to the bottom overlap point.

Open the Diamond Pair and Press
Press the seam allowance to one side. The straight edges of the joined diamonds will align, and your first diamond row will be off to a solid start.

Let’s Talk Layout
Helpful tip: One easy way to start is to sew each print diamond to a blue diamond first, then lay those pairs out into diagonal rows. This makes chain piecing easier and helps speed up assembly.
- Follow the quilt layout diagram in the pattern as you arrange your diamonds. You can lay out all of the diamonds in diagonal rows to play with print placement.
- Once the diagonal rows are stitched, it’s time to join the rows. Start by pressing the seams in each row in opposite directions.
- Pinning is key. Align the first two rows right sides together, then place a pin where the seams overlap.
- Keep the seam parallel to the raw edges of the row. This helps you preview the seam and make sure the diamonds align.
- Sew diagonal rows together in pairs, then join the pairs until the quilt top is assembled. This helps keep the quilt from warping.

Diamonds Are Forever!
Once you get comfortable with the overlap-and-stitch method, diamond piecing starts to feel much more approachable. Take it row by row, pin carefully when joining sections, and enjoy watching the design come together.
