5 Simple Things to Sew in 2021
Looking for a fun, easy sewing project to ring in the New Year? Luckily, there are a lot out there.
Many crafters want sewing to be a relaxing, mindless activity, so they aren’t looking for intense projects that require painstaking concentration (and sometimes a dose of frustration). These simple things to sew are great for just sitting down and sewing — something we know a little bit about here at Sit n’ Sew Fabrics.
1. Face Mask Kits
Not only are face mask kits super easy, but they’re also much more comfortable than most store-bought masks! You can easily adjust them to fit your face, and you can also choose your preferred style (with or without a replaceable filter), pattern, and color!
If you need some extra help getting started, we’ve got you covered. Check out our latest face mask tutorial featuring Lisa Ruble from Love to Color My World. Once you’ve got the hang of sewing these face masks, you should be able to whip up several of them in an hour with a sewing machine and a ready-to-sew kit. These fun, easy sewing projects make great gifts for neighbors, birthdays, family members, and more.
2. Novelty Quilt Kits
What will your child love more than a comfy quilt? A comfy quilt with their favorite characters on it!
There are so many fabrics out there with beloved characters printed on them, all designed for quilters like you to create fun, exciting quilts. Novelty quilt kits are a relatively simple thing to sew, and they’re sure to be an extra-special gift for the children in your life.
3. Panel Kits
A panel quilt is a single printed length of fabric that is quilted together with border and binding. There’s no need to put together tiny patchwork pieces to make the top of your quilt, so this is a super simple thing to sew for beginners and novices.
Panel kits are so easy, and they’re guaranteed to look great. If you have a sewing machine, this goes by way faster than if you do it by hand — but either method works.
4. 60 Degree Triangle Kits
Triangle quilt tops are trendy, and since they’re so repetitive, all you need to do is learn one set of stitches before putting the whole thing together!
With a ready-to-sew 60 degree triangle kit, you don’t have to worry about cutting out all of the angles with precision. Check out our Sit n’ Sew Fabrics YouTube channel for a quick and easy tutorial to get you started.
5. Dresden Plate Kits
As quilt kits go, it doesn’t get much easier than a Dresden Plate. These quilt kits look a bit like flowers, with each “blade” extending out from a central circle. Like the triangle kit, you simply need to learn one stitch before you’re on your way to a beautiful project. This is a simple thing to sew for beginners and professionals alike, and the process gets even easier as you gain more experience! Learn more with our Dresden Plate tree skirt tutorial.
