Backing
Our embroidery backing material, also known as an embroidery stabilizer, comes in two easy varieties: tearaway and cutaway. As the names would have it, you can simply cut or tear these backings away when you’ve finished your embroidery. You can also get Peel & Stick tearaway that requires no spray adhesive.
Not sure which material to go for? Try to choose a weight that corresponds to the weight of the fabric you're embroidering. Another good rule to follow is to choose your weight according to your stitch count. Generally, the higher the stitch count, the heavier the backing should be.
Topping
Once you've chosen your backing, it’s time to browse our selection of topping. The water-soluble topping material is useful when you want to prevent stitches from sinking into a thick fabric and getting lost. You can use topping for embroidery projects ranging from tiny accents or large monograms.
For the water-soluble topping, all you do is apply the topping to the fabric you're going to stitch, work your embroidery magic upon it, then melt it away with steam or a fine mist from a spray bottle.
