Kit Leftovers = Mug Rugs!
Have you seen our Merry & Bright kit? This seasonal wall hanging is quick and easy to make, and we've got a video tutorial that you can watch as you sew. The kit combines embroidered blocks (we've done the stitching work for you!) and two cozy wintry prints to complete the quilt top.
Today I'm going to show you what you can make with the leftover flying geese triangles - great small gift ideas for your family and friends.
Keep scrolling and I'll show you how to cut, press and assemble the units made from these extra triangles to make two different styles of mug rugs. You can make four of each style using your Merry & Bright leftovers!
Here's what we're working with - the Merry & Bright quilt has (4) flying geese units - these units are made using quick corners, which leaves large triangle pairs. Pin these triangle pairs before cutting them so they stay neatly paired.

This is what your triangle. leftovers will look like at this point - (2) 4-1/2" squares (white layered on top of tree fabric - you can only see one), and (2) smaller HST (half-square triangle) units.

Now for the leftover squares - Lay out (4) squares in (2) rows of (2). Note the orientation of the tree fabric. Sew the squares into rows and join the rows to complete the mug rug top. Layer the mug rug top with batting and backing, baste, and quilt as desired. Cut (1) 2-1/4" x WOF plaid strip from your leftover kit fabric and use to bind the mug rug.
