What is a good project for beginners?

We recommend starting with a small quilt kit that has simple applique or piecing techniques. A single panel wall quilt is an excellent example of a quick and easy piece to make.

Do the Sit n’ Sew Kits come with everything I need to make a quilt?

The Sit n’ Sew Kits include pre-cut fabric pieces for blocks and borders, quilt backing, and binding fabric. All you need to add to the kits to make a complete quilt is a needle, thread, and batting. Batting, the soft cushioning that fills a quilt, can be purchased in different thicknesses and weights.

What is a ‘fat quarter’?

A fat quarter is a quarter yard piece of fabric that measures about 18" x 21", versus the standard 9" x 44" quarter yard.

What increments are loose fabric sold in?

We sell our loose fabric by the yard.

Quilt Care

How should I wash my newly-crafted quilt?

You’ve spent lots of time and effort on making your quilted work of art, so you must take proper care when washing it. The weight of a quilt when wet can put stress on the stitching, fabric, and batting if lifted improperly, or if it receives too much agitation.

We recommend hand washing your quilts. To do so, fill a tub with lukewarm water and add a small amount of gentle detergent that is free of perfumes. You can also find special detergents that are made just for quilts. Fold the quilt like an accordion and place it in the tub, allowing it to soak for 15-30 minutes or more. Then, drain the tub and refill it with cool water to rinse. Repeat this rinsing process several times to remove the soap. Once rinsed, blot the quilt with dry towels to absorb the moisture. Then, lay the quilt out on a flat, dry surface that will allow air to circulate around it.
